Running a double elimination tournament can be very confusing if you have never done it before. If you are wondering “how do i make a tournament bracket” for a double elimination tournament, you can just download one of double elimination blank brackets and either print it yourself or use it as a template to make your own.
After you have the blank bracket, you need to take all of the names of the teams or indivuals who have entered your tournament and write them on the bracket. Just randomly pick a name and place it on line 1 in the middle of the bracket. Continue to randomly pick names and place them on the next line (line 2, then line 3, etc) until all of your names are written on the bracket. When you are finished, you will need to place a ‘bye’ on each line that remains empty. In other words, some of your tournament participants will have a match against a ‘bye’. The bye moves through the tournament exactly the same way as any other player or team would, except the bye automatically loses every match. Any player with a ‘bye’ automatically advances to the next round. It is possible that you will have bye vs bye, in which case one of the byes wins, and the other loses.
Begin playing the matches, and advance the winner as indicated by the arrows on the bracket. Some matches are marked ‘loser to x’. This means that the loser of the match is moved to ‘x’ on the other side of the bracket. A player is not out of the tournament until they have lost two matches. The winner of the losers bracket (left side) plays the winner of the winners bracket in the final match. The winner of the winners side is considered to be ‘in the drivers seat’ and the winner of the losers bracket must beat them twice (until he/she/they have lost two matches). The winner of this match is the tournament champion.
